Wet Cupping Therapy
A Traditional Approach to Modern Wellbeing
Wet cupping, also known as Hijama, is a time‑honoured therapy practised for centuries across different cultures. This holistic treatment is designed to support your body’s natural healing processes by improving circulation and aiding detoxification.
What Is Wet Cupping?
Wet cupping involves placing specially designed cups on selected areas of the body to create gentle suction. This suction draws blood toward the surface, which helps stimulate local circulation and encourages the movement of fluids and energy within the tissues.
After a short period, the cups are removed and small, controlled incisions are made on the skin, these are very light and superficial. The cups are then reapplied to allow a minimal amount of blood to be released. This process is believed to assist in removing stagnant blood and toxins, supporting detoxification and helping the body restore its natural balance. Many clients describe the sensation as relaxing and cleansing, leaving them feeling lighter and refreshed.

Types of Wet Cupping
While the basic principle is the same, practitioners tailor the method to your needs and comfort:

Traditional Wet Cupping
Cups are applied for a few minutes to lift the tissue, light incisions are made, and the cups are reapplied briefly to draw a small amount of blood before careful clean‑up and dressing.
Flash Wet Cupping
Short, repeated applications of cups with lighter suction, followed by minimal incisions. This is a gentler, time‑efficient approach that still encourages local circulation.

Flowing Wet Cupping
A light oil is applied and a cup is gently moved across the skin (to warm tissues and promote flow). The practitioner then switches to a brief wet cupping step on selected points.
Targeted Wet Cupping
Focuses on targeted points (for example, along the back, shoulders, or neck) chosen during consultation to address your goals.

How a Typical Session Works
-
Personal consultation (first visit): We discuss your goals, health history, medications, and any concerns to ensure the treatment is appropriate.
-
Marking the sites: Specific points are identified based on your needs.
-
First suction: Cups are applied for a few minutes to lift the tissue and encourage blood flow.
-
Light incisions: Tiny, superficial scratches are made on the skin (usually mild in sensation).
-
Second suction: Cups are reapplied briefly to draw a small amount of blood.
-
Clean‑up and dressing: The area is cleansed and covered with sterile dressings.
-
Aftercare guidance: You’ll receive simple instructions to support recovery.
Session length: Allow 45–75 minutes for an initial visit (including consultation) and 30–60 minutes for follow‑ups.
